PCManFM/libfm string freeze and beta period

An unusual update. Andriy posted a note to the pcmanfm development list about the upcoming release of PCManFM and libfm components. He has been hard at work closing bugs and adding features and in hopes to release in time for the next Ubuntu freeze we’ve now entered soft string freeze. This means that no new features will be added and most strings are stable enough to be translated. In about two weeks a solid freeze happens and no strings will change (hopefully we’ve found all hard to translate cases by then). If you want to help test drive the new code (build from source: pcmanfm-1.2.0-beta1.tar.xz libfm-1.2.0-beta4.tar.xz) or add to the translation effort we do welcome that.

If nothing very evil happens a new and shiny PCManFM 1.2.0 will be out early February.

  1. Congrats! You just incorporated in that beta my most missed features: Dual Pane View and “Create (Sym)Links”! Still testing, but so far no problems. What would be nice though, is a have keyboard commands to move/copy files between folder panes…
Anyway: a big big THANK YOU for your work!!!

  2. i same have error compile pcmanfm:

    pcmanfm.c: In function ‘main’:
pcmanfm.c:258:5: error: implicit declaration of function ‘fm_modules_add_directory’ [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
cc1: some warnings being treated as errors

    make[1]: Leaving directory `/KNOPPIX.build/PackageUpdate/pcmanfm-1.2.0-beta1′
    make: *** [all] Ошибка 2
    How decide this problem?

  3. The most probably you are trying to build pcmanfm against some libfm version 1.2.0 before beta4, upgrade libfm first, please.

  4. Just installed PCManFM 1.2.0-beta2/LibFM Ver. 1.2.0-beta5. German locale.

Bug: Pcmanfm freezes, when changing sidepane-view to “tree”. This did & does not happen with beta1…

  5. Concerning above post (6&7): the problem seems to be LibFM Ver. 1.2.0-beta5. Just installed pcmanfm beta2 over LibFM 1.2.0-beta4 and everything works just fine.

  6. Next Bug-Alert for LibFM_Beta5: When trying to browse SMB-shares, pcmanfm hangs. Reverting libfm to beta4, everythings ok.
