Build lxde-qt from git source: an updated guide

Since the original LXDE and razor-qt projects decided to merge the effort and work together on the same project, we formed lxde-qt, or lxqt for short. Some effort was made to merge existing codebases and components, but things are still in an early stage so there is no public release yet. For preview purpose, here is a guide for the brave to build lxde-qt from git source code. Please note, since this is a work in progress, things are subject to frequent changes. So be prepared and don’t expect too much. Things will improve, but it takes time. 🙂

Please don’t use it in a production environment. It’s not ready for daily use yet. You have been warned.

  1. LQ? Then LiQui.DE will be the good name – IMHO 🙂

  2. Linking CXX executable lxqt-config-globalkeyshortcuts
    /usr/local/lib/liblxqt.so: undefined reference to `XdgDirs::dataDirs(QString const&)’
    /usr/local/lib/liblxqt.so: undefined reference to `XdgDirs::autostartDirs(QString const&)’
    collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

  3. LQDE sounds better than LXQT in my opinion.
    please consider this as an option. the name is really important for a project

  4. +1 LQDE
    lxde is switching from xorg to mir or wayland. So it’s better that way

  5. I’d just drop the “X”: LDE or LDE-Qt. That way in five years when its ported to a new UI framework the name does not have to change…

    Liquide sounds stupid.

  6. Qt applications name generally begins with “Q”.
    So, what about QLXDE (Qt Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment)?

  7. The guide is a gread step forward! Tried to build lxqt on debian, everything compiled fine but I see Symbol Lookup errors when trying to run most of the components. Waiting for someone to package this for Debian!

    PS – I don’t care about the name as long as the new DE works good 🙂

  8. Re project name, how about just LDE?

    I presume being “light” is the overriding direction regardless of framework. It also kind of mirrors “KDE” and 3 letters is obviously easier to type than 4, 5 or more. There was a LDE(X) project many years ago but it’s all but defunct now so a google search for just “lde” could be well targeted in short order.

  9. Very glad that you have joined forces with the razor-qt project.

    LDE sounds perfect. It coincides with KDE and seems future proof should anything else change again.

  10. maybe razor should be used as well. razor is a good name, i don’t like the razor-qt tho
