New download page for LXDE

Mwei in Taiwan and me (Mario) in Germany have set up a new download page for LXDE on http://download.lxde.org.

The page currently features a Live-CD version and USB version of pud, which was put together by Penk, who is also a LXDE contributor from Taiwan. LXDE/PUD GNU/Linux is an Ubuntu-based mini distribution based on LXDE. Pin-Shiun Chen is the developer of this special version: “This edition of live CD is made for the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment (LXDE), including the newest LXDE 0.3, installer and Ubuntu 8.04 packages.”

System benchmark tests of LXDE with lmbench suite.

Penk from the LXDE core team in Taiwan has done a lxde system benchmark test using the lmbench suite.

lmbench is a suite of simple, portable ANSI/C microbenchmarks for UNIX/POSIX. In general, it measures two key features: latency and bandwidth. It is intended to give system developers insight into basic costs of key operations. (http://freshmeat.net/projects/lmbench/)

The results can be seen in the test file here: lxde-benchmark

More benchmark tests can be done with tools from the Linux Benchmark Suite: http://lbs.sourceforge.net
